Why we chose this

Staying active matters a great deal when you are living with Parkinson's, and the practical difficulty is usually not motivation but finding something that can be started at a genuinely low level and scaled slowly. That is what this set does well - five tensions with a real spread between them, beginning at a band light enough that the first session does not have to be an effort. Flat bands are also the format most physiotherapists work with, so if someone has been given a routine, these are likely to be what it assumes.

Good to know

  • Flat bands are held at the ends, which takes more grip than the loop bands or the handled tube bands we also stock - many PwP find it easier to anchor the band around a stable object, tie it into a loop, or wrap it around the forearm rather than gripping it in the hand.
  • Start with the extra light band even if it feels too easy; the spread across five tensions is there to be worked through slowly.
  • Check each band for nicks or small tears before use, as a damaged band can give way suddenly under tension, and store them somewhere dry and out of sunlight so the material does not perish.

Five flat bands, each 6 feet long and 4 inches wide, in five graded tensions - extra light through to extra heavy. The set is built around starting gently: the extra light band is 0.25mm and offers very little resistance, which makes it a realistic place to begin rather than a token first step.

Bands can be used seated or standing, anchored around a stable object, tied into a loop, or held at the ends. Because they are flat rather than tubed, they lie against the body comfortably for stretching work as well as strengthening. Many people work them into a routine set with a physiotherapist.

Made from a durable composite material. Wipe down with a dry cloth as needed and store somewhere dry and out of direct sunlight.

  • Includes five bands in graded tensions — extra light, light, medium, heavy, extra heavy
  • Measures 6 feet long by 4 inches wide per band, at 0.25mm to 0.65mm thickness
  • Starts genuinely light at 0.25mm, so the first band is a realistic starting point
  • Works seated or standing — anchor around a stable object, tie into a loop, or hold at the ends
  • Wipes clean with a dry cloth; store dry and out of direct sunlight

Choose the lightest band to begin with. The band can be anchored around a stable object such as a table leg, tied into a loop, wrapped around the forearm, or held at each end - whichever needs the least grip. Work seated or standing, keeping the movement slow and controlled in both directions rather than letting the band snap back. Stop if anything feels sharp rather than simply effortful. Move up a tension only once the current band feels comfortable through a full set. Before each use, run the band through your fingers and check for nicks, thinning or small tears - a damaged band can give way suddenly. Wipe down with a dry cloth as needed and store flat in a dry place away from direct sunlight.
