Why we chose this

Cold packs are easy to buy and hard to keep in place - most slide off the ankle the moment you move, and holding one there is not realistic if hand steadiness varies. We chose this wrap because it does the holding for you: the gel pack fastens inside a shaped neoprene boot, and the hand pump lets you set the snugness once rather than gripping anything. Falls and ankle knocks are a familiar reality for many PwP, and having a single self-contained wrap in the freezer - no cooler, no ice bath, no bag of peas - removes a lot of friction from a moment when nobody wants to be improvising. Worth knowing the pump step needs a repeated squeeze, which is the one part a caregiver may find easier to do.

Good to know

  • Inflating the air chamber requires squeezing a small hand pump- a repetitive gripping motion that may be challenging with tremor or reduced hand strength; a caregiver can assist with that step.
  • The wrap is spot-clean only - do not submerge in water or machine wash, as this can damage the internal air bladder.
  • Limit cold therapy sessions to 20 minutes.
  • Replacement gel packs are available separately.

Ankle swelling and post-injury recovery often follow falls - a recurring challenge for many people living with Parkinson’s. This Arctic Flex ankle wrap goes beyond a standard ice pack: a removable hand pump inflates an internal air chamber to add adjustable compression alongside cold or heat therapy, while the flexible clay-gel pack conforms to the shape of the foot and ankle.

The clay gel stays soft when frozen, and the pack is shaped to sit against the sides and front of the ankle. The open-heel design leaves the heel free, and the wrap is reversible for either foot, fitting most shoe sizes (men’s US 6.5–14, women’s US 5–12).

Spot-clean only - do not machine wash or submerge, as water entering the pump will damage it. The hand pump is removable, and a replacement gel pack is available separately. Includes a 60-day guarantee.

Cold therapy: freeze the gel pack, attach it inside the wrap using the hook-and-loop tabs on the back, and secure the fastener strap around the ankle. Attach the hand pump and add air until the compression feels comfortable, using the release valve to let air out before removing. Limit cold sessions to 20 minutes at a time.

Heat therapy: place the gel pack on a paper towel or paper plate in the microwave and heat on full power in 5-second increments only. Watch it the whole time and stop immediately if the pack begins to expand. Remove it with tongs and place it inside the wrap or a folded towel, then check the warmth with a light touch through the covering - never touch the pack directly, as it may be extremely hot. Warm to the touch is enough.

Care: spot clean the wrap and the gel pack, then air dry. Do not machine wash, machine dry, or submerge - water entering the pump will damage it.
