Why we chose this

Worn cane tips are one of those things that get overlooked precisely because the change is so gradual - the tread wears smooth over months and the cane simply becomes less sure-footed without anyone noticing a specific day it happened. We stock these because replacing four tips is far cheaper than replacing a cane, and because a quad cane is only as steady as the four points touching the floor. They fit the standard ½" prong used on our Vive Quad Cane, and the textured underside is the part that matters most on smooth indoor flooring.

Good to know

  • Worth knowing that fitting these takes a firm downward push and a twist, which is awkward to do one-handed - many PwP find it easier to ask someone else to fit them, or to do it seated with the cane braced against the floor.
  • Check the prong diameter before ordering: these fit ½" quad cane prongs and will not fit a single-point cane.
  • A useful habit is to look at the tread whenever the cane gets a clean - once it has gone smooth or shiny, the grip has already gone.

Cane tips wear down. The tread goes smooth, the rubber hardens, and the grip you relied on quietly stops being there - usually without any obvious moment when it happened. This set replaces all four tips on a standard quad cane so the base grips properly again.

Each tip is made from TPR with a metal insert for strength, and the underside is textured to hold on smooth indoor surfaces. They flex slightly with each step to take the edge off the impact, and they are non-marking, so they will not leave scuffs on hard floors.

Remove the old tips and clean the exposed surface of each prong. Fit a new tip onto each prong by pushing downward on a flat surface and twisting until the prong is fully seated - a tip that is not pushed all the way on can sit at an angle and make the base unsteady. Check all four are fully seated before using the cane. To clean, wipe with a damp cloth and mild soap, then air dry completely before use.
